What sets Koan Collection apart from all other galleries is their unparalleled approach to business. As founder of Koan, Loga Ramin Torkian- a mathematician by education as well as a critically acclaimed recording and international touring artist- believes that ones work can become an extension of ones personal beliefs. He has therefore crafted an approach to conducting business which is a rarity in this day and age. " Since the mid 1980’s, I have traveled extensively all over Asia and the one thing which struck me profoundly early on was how deeply intertwined people’s personal beliefs are with their work and lifestyle. I was so inspired by this concept that I decided to adopt and eventually implement that very philosophy into my own life."

The result is clearly evident as one takes a walk through this outstanding gallery. Specializing in both antique and new items from India, Thailand, Indonesia, Tibet, Nepal, Turkey and China , each piece is individually hand selected in the respective countries they are from for its uniqueness and quality, brought over with the utmost care, and displayed in the gallery with much thoughtfulness. The wide selection features an eclectic mixture of old and new items which includes one of a kind daybeds, dining sets, consoles, cabinets, chairs, desks, shelves, lamps, wooden, brass and stone statues, outdoor furniture, fountains, doors, original architectural pieces, art objects, pillows, textiles, and beautiful silver jewelry.

As one walks through the store, the imagination is at once aroused by the unique displays which play to ones deep desire for the sanctuary we all seek to build amidst the chaotic patterns of our hectic urban lives. Walking into Koan has been described as having almost walked into a temple. The smell of incense permeates the air and the flicker of candles revels the many shrines lovingly built as part of the gallery to create an encompassing sense of harmony and peace. The careful placement of all pieces in the gallery are done by Koan’s manager Edwige Saint-Jacques who has extensive knowledge and experience in interior design, following the studies of Vaastu, the classical Indian science of architecture and design. Her expertise in this field has proven to be of much help to clients who may on occasion be uncertain about the optimal placement of certain pieces in their home.

"The beautification of our homes is one of most significant ways in which we express ourselves and enrich our lives, therefore we at Koan take great pride not only in the highest quality items we present to our clients, but also in the individual care we provide to each person who walks through our door." - Loga Ramin Torkian
